“ tried out the truffle beef cutlet set and it was so delicious! the crumb on the sides of the beef made it taste so much better and i loved the umami flavors i got from both the crumb and the beef. the rice was flavored with lots of seaweed and sauce which was enjoyable! the vibe of the restaurant was enjoyable too with lots of good music playing in the background and service was really good and attentive. definitely a restaurant i would love to return to in the future! ”

“ An ad-hoc dinner with a friend at Secret Chefs brought so much surprise to us. My friend chose this Japanese restaurant as she saw a really mouth-watering picture of beef from this restaurant. And the food itself tasted even better than it looked! We ordered two sets to share. The first one was this Beef with Black Truffle. It was quite fun to grill it your own. And the black dots of truffle on the side of the beef was so flavored! Making the delicious beef even more delicious! Nom nom! The rice was very tasty with the secret seasonings on top. Soft boiled egg was great too! We also got this Pork Cutlet with Cheese set to share. The cheese was so amazing! It’s thick, flavored, went so well with the pork cutlet, yet not overly greasy nor solid. Fantastic! The pork cutlet pieces had a very crunchy surface, wrapping juicy and tender meat inside. Yum! Not to miss was this Sakura soup that came with the set. It was a light broth with a hint of sakura in it, delicious in itself and great to ease any greasiness from the grilled beef or pork cutlet (even though they were not greasy at all to me)! We also ordered a pot of clams in garlic and chilli broth. The chilli was quite spicy indeed with the seeds out. The clams were quite fresh and very delicious with the broth. Definitely coming back for the reasonably priced gourmet here! ”

“ Very interesting place. The truffle beef cutlet was amazing. The portion is quite big for the price. You can add on $20 to get the set, which comes with rice and furikake, boiled eggs and soft drinks (not available on weekends). I wish the cabbage came with some seasonings, such as sesame dressings. ”

“ One of Hong Kong’s best-kept secrets, we visited the Jordan branch of @secretchefs.hk to try their signature gyukatsu. Although we had booked in advance for late dinner, we still had to wait a while before being seated at a shared table due to the long queue outside. As they had already taken our order beforehand, food was promptly served. The waitresses helped us to refuel the stone grill despite no service charge. Just a small inconvenience that only cash is accepted. [Gyukatsu] We were all smiles (just like the plating) as we got to grill each piece of raw beef cutlet to our liking and didn’t have to worry about the food going cold. The juicy meat was well-seasoned and the breadcrumb coating had a nice crunch. How-to: 1. Use the slab of fat to oil up the entire stone 2. Grill the meat on both sides for 10 seconds to medium well We added $30 for a set that included a bowl of rice sprinkled with furikake, soft boiled egg and a sakura kelp soup. The light broth was quite unique and even had sakura petals in it! [Beef and Vegetables Shabu Shabu] This was not as impressive as the gyukatsu, but still a healthy choice worth ordering for the tender braised beef and other nutritious ingredients, such as cabbage, enokitake and shiitake mushrooms. Eat the chewy shirataki noodles last so they have enough time to soak up the rich broth made with meaty beef bones and other veggies, including carrot, celery and onion. “ One of the best meals we had in Hong Kong. Walked in at around 8pm, luckily they had a table available. Servers were attentive and would top up the grill when fire is about to go out. Tried the beef cutlet, pork cutlet w/ cheese and chicken wings but the star is the truffle beef. Highly recommend to give this place a try when in the area. ”

“ The restaurant still serves their mouth-watering tempura beef and Japanese beef on the barbecue hot stone during this challenging time, especially when the city may have the large-scale “lock-down” before. (It opens during 12:00-17:30 and has no afternoon break now) The tempura beef is covered with crispy layer and needs the customer to cook its inner part themselves, which is an unique serving method in Japan. The barbecuing progress on the hot stone amplifies the aroma and soft texture of the beef and allows you to experience another kind of cooking magic. Their cuisine comforts our hearts and moods.
